Visual artist / Indipendent curator / VJ /

Born in 1984 Valerio Veneruso studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, then moved to Venice where, in 2012, he graduated in Visual Arts at the University IUAV.

What is it about?

The primary goal is to provide participants with the tools leading them to a better understanding of what we see on a daily basis through new media, thereby to contextualize and better perceive the processes that led to any particular visual product to be distributed and taken up by masses.

Creativity and experimentation are also those human faculties that have never, as in this age, been subject to an appropriate stimulation in order to allow the discovery of unexplored potentials.

What will we work on?

The production of innovative technological material (digital and/or analogical) The understanding of alternative ways to the canonicals for the production and manipulation of images.

The analysis and full awareness of the changes of both collective imagination and contemporary society through the dissemination of images.

How does it work?

The workshop will be divided in two parallel parts, a theoretical and a practical one.

During the theoretical classes the topics will be studied by the vision and analysis of particular audiovisual material (film extracts, interviews and clips from documentaries, video clips, interactive sites, etc.) useful for developing a greater awareness of what we usually see every day.
It will also be made available a searchable bibliography next to
extracts of texts in PDF format.

Instead, during the practice moments participants will have the opportunity to:

• Assimilate the artistic modus operandi of teacher and tutors

• Present and share personal projects

• Realise, through specific platforms and certain programs,
animated gifs

• Understand and use the screen recording technique

• Use, in an "incorrect" way, special softwares for the production of
experimental video

• Discover and explore, through skypecalls and hangouts, the working mode
of artists and professionals

• Design and build – using motors combined with Arduino boards –
analog devices that can somehow establish a dialogue
with the current phenomenon of animated GIFs: a zoetrope, a dream
